Geoengineering & Me!
The first of our two units in Frontiers is about ocean exploration. We learned about what we know about the ocean so far throughout this unit. Next, we talked about climate change and how it affects the ocean's ecosystem. A huge topic we covered, I even covered in this project, is geoengineering. Geoengineering is a large-scale intervention on climate change in both the oceans and land, and we can increase the level of carbon our environment can absorb. Finally, we visited a local spot, Urban Rivers, where we learned about how they plan to reclaim the Chicago River in Lincoln Park by creating a public riverwalk that not only contributes to the health of the air and the health of the water. For this Action Project, we had the option to research and write about what we believe the future of the ocean is. I chose to write my paper on geoengineering!
Overall, I enjoyed researching geoengineering. However, when reading the scholarly articles, I often felt confused by their jargon which slowed my process down. Again, I really enjoyed doing this AP because I think it was helpful for me to strengthen my essay writing skills.
