The Start of a Social Enterprise
Unit 2 of Social Entrepreneurship was quite an ambitious unit. Shifting from the first unit to this, we focused on running a social enterprise and formulating our own ideas. In preparation, we talked to various organizations like Chicago All-Stars and how they give children an outlet to express themselves creatively and the Neighborhood Schools Program at the University of Chicago. NSP's goal is to help jumpstart education for children and give educational support to those who wouldn't have it otherwise. For my Action Project, I created a theoretical social enterprise like Doctors Without Borders, which also creates a supply chain for medical technology. That is why I made Doctors' Practice, Access, Care (DPAC or Doctors' PAC) as a proposed resolution.
I enjoyed this AP as it had me thinking about changes I want to see in the world and ways we could resolve them. Obviously, DPAC is just a mere idea; there is no one solution to medical inaccessibility. Had I had more time, I definitely would've come up with a better name, but it is satisfactory. Running a social enterprise, as with any business, is hard. I think where I struggled most with this project is coming up with a successful marketing strategy, but I hope to further hash out that idea in the next unit.
