During our third unit of Journalism, we explored how voices can impact us. By voices, we mean representation through mediums such as radio broadcasting/podcasting, music, and speeches and how they can be used to influence others. We explored how to be a vocal storyteller by listening to WBeZ’s “The Friendly Man” and listened to Ira Glass explain what it meant to be a good broadcaster, in this case, a podcaster. The consensus is that a good podcast raises questions and tells a story. There should be a moment of reflection from the host. What is the purpose of this? For our final Action Project, we had to put these skills to use by revolving our podcast around picking the voice of a person that we believe is impactful and distinct. For my project, I chose British jazz artist Amy Winehouse. The purpose of my project was to contrast two different perspectives on the singer. One interviewee was familiar with Amy’s music, and the other was not so familiar with her or her music. Our project was only supposed to be 5 minutes long. However, I believe the interviews I had could not be condensed into that time frame due to the nature of the topic. I am proud of how it turned out, even with the technological problems I had. I was pleasantly surprised by how well my audio was, even though I didn’t have a microphone to record with. Anyways, tune in to ‘Amy’ to hear my thoughts on Amy Winehouse and her music.

Overall I really I enjoyed this AP. The challenges I faced were really technological. I couldn't really figure out how to fade audio in and out that well. Despite that I still had fun making my podcast episode, especially on someone whose music I enjoy greatly. I also enjoyed being able to involve friends and family and hear their perspectives.
